| Mineralogist, born in Wächtersbach, C Germany. He studied at Giessen and Marburg universities, went to the USA in 1848, and became professor of chemistry and mineralogy at Pennsylvania (1872). He investigated the cobalt-ammonium compounds, and discovered 24 new minerals, one of which is named genthite. |
