| Dancer, ballet director, and teacher, born in Liverpool, Merseyside, NW England, UK. He worked with the Markova–Dolin Ballet (1935–7) and the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo (1938–49, 1954–6), becoming company ballet master in 1944. Later he worked with various companies including his own Slavenska–Franklin Ballet (founded 1951), the National Ballet of Washington (artistic director, 1962–74), Pittsburgh Ballet Theater (co-director), and Chicago Ballet. |
