| Religious writer, born in Spain. His El Político del Cielo (2 vols., 1637-8) is an interpretation of Divine Providence and Divine Will based on the biblical stories of Isaac and Jacob. He also wrote biographies of St. Basil the Great and St. John the Evangelist in El Fenis de la Grecia S. Basilio el Grande (1643) and El lucero de la tarde, S. Iuan, apostol, evangelista, i profeta (1649). His works were translated into Latin by Fr J Freylinck as Opera omnia (4 vols, Mainz, 1650–1). Vocal in his attacks on Quevedo's satires, he was believed to have written part of El tribunal de la justa venganza (Valencia, 1635) by Arnaldo Franco-Furt, a pseudonym which may also conceal the identity of Juan Pérez de Montalbán, whose funeral oration was written by him (1639). |
