| biography:
| British writer. She studied at Oxford, and as a writer became active in several arts and literary associations, chairing the Society of Authors (1974–5). She is best known for her books about important historical figures, such as Mary Queen of Scots (1969, James Tait Black), Kings and Queens of England (1975, 1988), and The Six Wives of Henry VIII (1992). Other books include Your Royal Hostage (1987), Political Death (1994), The Gunpowder Plot: Terror and Faith in 1605 (1996), and Marie Antoinette: The Journey (2001). She married Harold Pinter in 1980. |
