| Cricketer, born in Tonbridge, Kent, SE England, UK. His Test career spanned a quarter of a century (1909–34), and although best remembered as a batsman he was a skilled all-rounder. He played 64 Test matches for England, scoring 3283 runs and recording five centuries. Against Australia at The Oval in 1912 he took 10 wickets for 49 runs in the match, and no fielder in first-class cricket has equalled his tally of 1018 catches. |
