| US marathon runner, born in Munich, SE Germany. He won the 1972 Olympic title, and took the silver medal at the 1976 Games. His first Olympic gold came in only his sixth marathon. A track runner before stepping up to marathon distance, his success helped inspire the running and jogging boom in the USA. He went on to a career as a television sports commentator. |
