| Critic and poet, born in Hipperholme, West Yorkshire, N England, UK. A fellow of King's College, Cambridge, he wrote many scholarly works of criticism, including Seneca and Elizabethan Tragedy (1922) and Eight Victorian Poets (1930). Among his volumes of poetry are Time and Memory (1929) and Ariadne (1932). He also wrote plays, novels, and popular translations of Greek drama and poetry. |
