| biography:
| Physicist, born in New York City, New York, USA. He taught and performed research at Princeton (1974–80) before joining the University of California, Santa Barbara as an astrophysicist (1980). While he was a graduate student at Princeton (1972–3), he used mathematical calculations to discover the nature of the ‘glue’ that holds nuclear subparticles together. His continued research includes high-energy physics, quantum field theory, and cosmological studies of matter and anti-matter. |
