| biography:
| Rugby player and coach, born in Vereeniging, Gauteng, NE South Africa. A flanker who made his debut for Transvaal in 1988 and for South Africa in 1993, he was captain in all his 29 international appearances. He led Transvaal to the Currie Cup wins in 1993 and 1994, and is remembered as the captain of the winning South African 1995 World Cup side who received the cup from President Nelson Mandela, who was also wearing one of his No 6 Springbok shirts. Excluded from the Springbok international tour in 1996, he moved to England to join Saracens as player-coach. |
