| Painter, born in Paris, France. Teacher of François Boucher, he entered the Académie Royale in 1718, and was appointed first painter to the king in 1736. He specialized in mythological subjects, notably ‘Apotheosis of Hercules’ (1736) in the Salon de la Paix at Versailles. |
