| Biochemist, born in Nancy, NE France. He studied at the University of Paris and the Sorbonne, worked at the Pasteur Institute in Paris (from 1950), and was appointed professor of cellular genetics at the Collège de France (1964). With Lwoff and Jacques Monod he conducted research into cell physiology and the structure of genes, for which they were jointly awarded the 1965 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine. |
