| biography:
| Poet, born in Leeuwarden, N Netherlands. He studied theology in Leiden and worked as a clergyman in various places. He wrote humorous poems under his pseudonym, but his parodies and satire are expressions of his romantic and melancholic nature. He would laugh in order not to cry. He suffered from depressions and took his own life in 1894. |
