| Poet, born in Sevilla, SW Spain. He studied at Osuna University under Juan de Mal Lara. He became a member of the Sevilla School, whose poetic manifesto he wrote as a prologue to Anotaciones a Garcilaso (1580) written by his friend Fernando de Herrera. His major original work is the ode ‘A Garcilaso’, and he was also especially highly regarded for his translations from Latin writers, among them Propertius and Ausonius. |
