| biography:
| Writer, born in Spain. He was a friend of Lope de Vega, and author of a savage pamphlet Petro de Torres Ramilae (1617) under his pseudonym, and co-writer of the equally savage Expostulatio Spongiae (1618) which defended Lope against the satire Spongia (1617) by Pedro de Torres Rámila. The latter pamphlet is not extant, having been destroyed by his enemies, but it is known to have contained personal attacks on Lope as well as a denunciation of his dramatic theories and practice insofar as they defy the Aristotelian unities. |
