| Antiquary, born in Greenford, W Greater London, UK. He squandered the family fortune, but applied himself to his Antiquities of England and Wales (1773–87). He toured Scotland and Ireland for antiquarian material, but died suddenly in Dublin. Other works include A Classical Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue (1785) and Treatise on Ancient Armour and Weapons (1785–9). |
