| biography:
| French novelist and poet, born in Nouméa, New Caledonia, brother of the historian Jérome Carcopino (1881–1970). His first poems appeared in reviews, through which he eventually established himself. He created a character which embodied the bohemian life of Montmartre described in the novels Jésus la Caille (1914) and Scènes de la vie de Montmartre (1919). Other works include L'Homme traqué (1922), Brûmes (1935), and Les Innocents (1916) which evokes his relationship with Katherine Mansfield. |
