| Player of American football, born in Richmond, Virginia, USA. He studied at the University of Georgia, where he led his team to victory in the Orange Bowl (1960). He joined the National Football League (NFL) Minnesota Vikings (1961) as starting quarterback, was traded to the New York Giants (1967), then rejoined the Vikings (1972). His career totals of 47 003 yds passing, 3686 passes completed, and 342 touchdown passes were all NFL records at the time of his retirement in 1978. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1986. He later worked as a football commentator and business consultant. |
