| Italian soldier and politician, born in Barletta, Puglia, SE Italy. As a high-ranking officer in the Bourbon army, he ruthlessly put down brigandage. He also suppressed the Cilento revolt in 1828 and, as Ferdinand II's police minister (1831–48), the bloody 1837 Sicilian risings. |
