| biography:
| Clergyman and missionary, born in Montigny-sur-Aure, NC France. He was ordained in 1647 and studied canon law at the Sorbonne. In 1659 he was sent as vicar apostolic to Quebec where he established the seminary of Quebec (1663), later renamed Laval University (1852). He became Quebec's first bishop (1674–88). |
