| Linguist, born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, USA. He studied at Yale (1949 PhD) and later taught there while pursuing research in linguistics and ethnology. He did fieldwork among the Oneida, Cherokee, and Seneca tribes and wrote Comparative Indian Morphology. |
