| Early Dutch ruler, who succeeded his brother Dirk IV as Count of Holland in 1049. He married c.1050 Gertrude of Saxony and continued his brother's expansion of the county southwards. In 1061 he defeated Ecbert I of Friesland at Nederhemert, but was ambushed and murdered on his way home. He was succeeded by his son, Dirk V. His daughter Bertha married Philip I of France. |
