| Novelist, born in Lagos, SW Nigeria. She moved to England with her student husband, and studied at London University. Her novels are powerful social documents, graphic in their depiction of man's inhumanity to woman. Relevant titles are In the Ditch (1972), Second-Class Citizen (1974), The Bride Price (1976), The Slave Girl (1977), and The Joys of Motherhood (1979). Later works include The Rape of Shavi (1983), Gwendolen (1989), and Kehinde (1994). |
