| Writer, born in Lawrence, Kansas, USA. She studied Romance languages at Columbia University, then became a writer, publishing her early fiction and later non-fiction under her maiden and married names respectively. Among other contributions to education she popularized the Montessori teaching method in the USA in the 1910s. She was also a founding member of the Book-of-the-Month Club editorial board (1926–50). |
