| Painter, born in Florence, NC Italy. He was the son of Fra Filippo Lippi, and was apprenticed to Botticelli. He completed the frescoes in the Brancacci Chapel, Florence, left unfinished by Masaccio c.1484. Other celebrated series of frescoes were painted by him between 1487 and 1502, the one in the Caraffa Chapel, S Maria sopra Minerva, Rome, being his most influential. ‘The Vision of St Bernard’ (c.1480–6) is his best-known picture. |
