| biography:
| Italian politician and prime minister (1960), born in Ascoli Piceno, Marche, E Italy. He was a deputy at the Constituent Assembly (1946) and held several ministerial posts (1953–60). In 1960 he briefly became prime minister at the head of a Christian Democrat government supported by the far right. The ensuing anti-Fascist demonstrations were violently suppressed by the police and he was forced to resign. |
