| Essayist, born in Oviedo, NW Spain. A disciple of José Ortega y Gasset, he was secretary of Revista de Occidente from 1923. He has translated from French literature and from German philosophy. Among his volumes of essays are El arte del cubo y otros ensayos (1927), El futuro imperfecto (1934), El grano de pimienta (1950), and Circunstancias (1953). Using the pseudonym ‘Hector del Valle’, Vela has written biographies of Mozart and Talleyrand (both 1943). |
