| Pharmacologist, born in Whiting, Indiana, USA. He studied at Western Reserve University, later working at the University of Virginia (1975–81), Stanford University (1981–9), and Northwestern University (1988– ). He shared the 1998 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for his contribution to the discovery of nitric oxide as a signalling molecule in the cardiovascular system. |
