| biography:
| Italian politician and writer, born in Florence, Tuscany, NC Italy. He was a deputy of the left from 1870, then minister, senator, and governor of Eritrea (1897–1900). A well-known journalist, in 1879 he founded and edited Il Fanfulla della domenica, Italy's first cultural periodical, and La Domenica letteraria in 1882. Other works include Fra un sigaro e l'altro (1876), Nell'Affrica italiana (1891), and Simpatie (1900), and the play L'uomo propone e la donna dispone (1862). |
