| British actress, born in Olton, West Midlands, C England, UK. Her parents had a travelling theatre company, and she grew up touring India and the Far East, attending various schools in India, and learning stage craft from her parents. She graduated from playing page boys at the age of eight to a number of Shakespearean roles before returning to England in 1965, making her London debut in Minor Murder (1967). She is probably best known for her part in the television series The Good Life (1974–8) and The Mistress (1985–6), but much of her work is in the theatre. In 1993 she appeared in Arcadia by Tom Stoppard, and later work includes Peter Hall's production of Waste at the Old Vic (1997). Her film roles have included Shakespeare Wallah (1965) and Parting Shots (1998). |
