| biography:
| Writer, born in Siena, Tuscany, C Italy. After an irregular education, supplemented by reading Dostoevsky, d'Annunzio, and the naturalists, he wrote the collection of poems La zampogna verde (1911) and La città della Vergine (1913). His move to Rome in 1914 coincided with his most creative period, producing Bestie (1917), Con gli occhi chiusi (1919), Tre croci (1920), and Gli egoisti (1923). Although his work can be classed as naturalistic, his ability to portray characters as victims of a merciless fate recalls Pirandello and Svevo. |
