| biography:
| Writer, born in Naples, Campania, SW Italy. He was influenced by the documentary realism of the verismo movement and the French trend for psychological study. Both these tendencies can found in his best known work, I viceré (1894), which chronicles the life of an aristocratic Siciclian family from 1850 to 1880. He also wrote short stories (La sorte, 1887; Processi verbali, 1890) and novels (L'illusione, 1891; L'imperio, 1928). |
