| biography:
| Painter and illustrator, born in Woodstown, New Jersey, USA. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1893–7), became an illustrator for various periodicals, and moved to New York (c.1898). Beginning in 1901, he painted theatre scenes and set designs, usually in pastels, as in ‘London Hippodrome’ (1902). He was among the founders of the Eight (1908), a school of painting based on Realism. |
