| biography:
| Religious painter, born in Paris, France. He studied under Vouet and painted in the classical Baroque style. His most notable work was a series of paintings of the ‘Life of St Bruno’ (Louvre) for the Chartreux in Paris. He also decorated two rooms in the Hôtel Lambert, and executed pictures for many churches and convents. He was influenced by Poussin and Raphael, and as co-founder of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture became one of its first professors. |
