| biography:
| Investment banker and lawyer, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He worked in government and in private banking after graduating from Temple (1951) and the University of Pennsylvania Law School (1955). After serving as a Security and Exchange Commission lawyer (1963–6), he was vice-president and treasurer of the World Bank in Washington, DC (1969–87). He left that post and joined Merrill, Lynch & Co in 1987. |
