He became a journalist at 23, and from 1883 was a columnist with the Chicago Morning News, achieving a reputation as humorist and poet with his column ‘Sharps and Flats’. He wrote the well-known nursery lullaby ‘Little Boy Blue’, and published several books of children's verse. |
