| Inventor and industrialist, born in Paris, France. In 1835 he founded a machine shop in Paris to manufacture model steam-engines for educational and demonstration purposes. In 1849 he patented a simple but ingenious device which is still in widespread use today for measuring the pressure of steam and many other fluids, the Bourdon gauge. |
