biography: Musician, born in Le Mans, NW France. He is known for the revival of interest in early music and musical instruments, especially the recorder. He established workshops at his home in Haslemere, Surrey, and promoted festivals on early music there from 1925, the Arnold Dolmetsch Foundation dating from 1928. He became a British citizen in 1931. After his death, his family continued and expanded the Haslemere musical tradition, under the direction of his youngest son, Carl.
