| Conductor, born in Babenhausen, S Germany. He studied in Augsburg (1914–22) and Munich (1922-4), and became musical director of the Hamburg Staatsoper and conductor of the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra (1934–49). In 1949 he returned to Munich, where he conducted the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. |
