Her letters and diary written during her stay in concentration camps survived the war, and in 1981 a selection from her diary was published under the title Het verstoorde leven (Interrupted Life). In this book she describes her search for inner peace in the chaos and harsh circumstances of the concentration camp. The work became a best-seller and is regarded as a moving human document. In 1986 her letters and diary notes were published in De nagelaten geschriften van Etty Hillesum (1941-1943) (Posthumous Writings of Etty Hillesum (1941-1943)). |
