| biography:
| Cartographer and geographer, born in Locse, Hungary. He went to the USA in 1923, working first for the American Geographical Society in New York City, and later for Harvard's Institute of Geographical Exploration (1930s–1950s), producing hand-drawn maps with great character and elegant calligraphy. His General Cartography (1938) was the first book of its kind in the English language, and remained so for some 15 years. His Principles of Cartography was published in 1962. |
