| biography:
| Fashion designer, born in St Petersburg, NW Russia. He went to Paris, where he became a dress and theatrical-costume designer. He worked for the Folies-Bergère (1919–30), and designed the costumes for the American musical revues The Ziegfeld Follies and George White's Scandals. In the 1960s he produced lithographs and sheet-metal sculptures. His autobiography, Things I Remember, was published in 1976. |
