| Manufacturer, born in Warrensburg, Missouri, USA. A racing-car driver and mechanic, he became president of Auburn Automobile Co in Auburn, IN, which acquired the Duesenberg Motor Co in Indianapolis (1926). In 1929 the Auburn plant introduced the Cord L-29, the first successful front-wheel drive car, which remained in production until 1932. Manufacture of all Cord and Duesenberg automobiles ceased in 1937 because of the Depression. |
