| Writer, born in Colmau in Alsace. He was professor of German philology at the university in Brussels (1912–14) and published his early Symbolist poetry in the periodical Der Sturmer, which he founded with René Schickele and Otto Flake (1880–1963). He became a pioneer of Expressionist poetry, and wrote lengthy, vital, optimistic poems, including Der Aufbruch (1914). |
