| Physicist, born in Hanover, NC Germany. He was professor of theoretical physics at the universities of Rostock (1928–44), Berlin (1944–51), and Hamburg (after 1951). In the late 1920s he founded quantum mechanics (with Max Born and Werner Heisenberg) and quantum electrodynamics (with Wolfgang Pauli and Eugene Wigner). He also discovered an important class of non-associative algebras known as Jordan algebras. His works include Elementary Quantum Mechanics (1930, with Max Born). |
