| Classical archaeologist, born in Lübeck, N Germany, the brother of Georg Curtius. He studied at Bonn, Göttingen, and Berlin, and became professor at Göttingen (from 1856) and Berlin (from 1868). His most notable excavations were at Olympia in Greece (1875–80). |
