| biography:
| Architect, and creator of Rubik's cube, born in Budapest, Hungary. He studied at the Technical University in Budapest, and became a teacher at the School of Industrial Design there. In 1974 he conceived the idea of a multi-coloured puzzle cube, divided into nine other cubes, each of which will pivot. There are millions of combinations, but only one possible way of getting all six sides to form a different colour. The cube was patented in 1975, and had become a world craze by the late 1970s. He has created other puzzles, though none have captured the public imagination in the same way. |
