| biography:
| Anglican missionary. He studied at Oxford, and was ordained in 1937. He entered the Community of the Resurrection, and in 1943 went to Johannesburg, where he ultimately became provincial of the Order (1949–55). After working in England (1956–60), he became Bishop of Masasi, Tanzania (1960–8), Bishop Suffragan of Stepney until 1978, then Bishop of Mauritius and Archbishop of the Indian Ocean. After his retirement, he returned to London, and became president of the Anti-Apartheid Movement (1981–94). |
