| Physiologist, born in London, UK. He was lecturer in physiology at Guy's Hospital and later professor at University College (1899–1923). He introduced the term hormones for the internal secretions of the ductless glands and, with Sir William Bayliss, discovered the intestinal hormone secretin (1902). His studies of cardiovascular physiology did much to elucidate the physiology of blood circulation. |
