| Physicist, born in Goettingen, Germany. He went to the USA in 1934, and taught and performed research in theoretical and atomic physics in several US universities and in Canada, before joining the Brookhaven National Laboratories (1948). He made major contributions to the ‘strong-focusing’ of magnetic fields used in particle accelerators. |
