| biography:
| Romantic poet, born on the island of Öland, SE Sweden. He studied at Uppsala, and became a civil servant in Stockholm. Little is known of his life, but his works show that he was constantly torn between idealism and eroticism. They include the epic Vladimir den store (1817, Vladimir the Great), plays such as Martyrerna (1821, The Martyrs), and lyric poetry, much of it found in Liljor i Saron (1821, Lilies in Sharon). His works were collected posthumously, when he became the most influential of Swedish Romantics. |
